Setting expectations.

Setting expectations is as important as managing them. I would almost say that one action requires the other.

Failing to establish the scope of a commitment after careful analysis will undoubtedly lead to a myriad of misinterpretations and act to the detriment of success.

Moreover, even with expectations properly set, ensuring that they are met and remain unchanged during the execution of a project is a key activity that should concern us as managers.

Expectations are sensitive to all kinds of factors within a project, so we must seek to preserve them.

Put into practice:

  • Active listening
  • Frequent and clear communication
  • Follow-ups or checkpoints
  • Short iteration and validation cycles
  • Adaptability to changes
  • Consideration of the cost/benefit relationship
